About Thamno

The universe and the world we live in are places of beauty, horror and sheer wonder.  I have always been very interested in knowing and understanding nature. For this, science and rational thinking is the only way. These are not the only things worth knowing and/or living for, and you may have chosen another path.

In this blog, I will do my best to share some of my enthusiasm for science and rational thinking, and I hope that it may sometimes peak your interest.

The name Thamno (Greek for bush or shrub) is an abbreviation of Thamnophis, the scientific name for the family of the garter snakes of which we have one member in Toronto: Thamnophis sirtalis, the common garter snake. Toronto is particularly blessed, because we have a fairly large population of the melanistic morph (black version) of this beautiful snake.

I hope you will enjoy reading my articles and, who knows?, we may be able to cross swords in a heated, but friendly discussion.
