As a city dweller, I am not really used to seeing many birds. Sure, there are pigeons and sparrows in Toronto, and I sometimes see birds of prey circling high above the city, but that’s usually it. In an interview, Canada’s minister for science and technology Gary Goodyear refused to say what his position was on the theory of evolution. Scientists are worried that this may influence the decisions he has to make. Yesterday was a beautiful day in Toronto, with temperatures of up to 9.6C. An ideal day for the yearly unofficial start of spring, with the traditional St. Patrick’s Day Parade. All things green were “in” yesterday, and something not-so-green as well. At 2 am this morning, the clocks were changed to 3 am. From now on, it will be light and dark an hour later. The people of Canada have just witnessed an historic occasion. The Governor General, Michaëlle Jean, has decided to grant a prorogation of the House of Commons until 2009. Churchill, a small town in northern Manitoba, is facing food shortages because of problems with the railway. They are now relying on restaurants and hotels to airlift food to the community. |
