Sylvia Millecam

Dutch acress, comedian and singer born on 23 February 1956 and deceased on 19 August 2001.

She is best known for her frequent television appearances. She also posed for Playboy, twice. The first time was in 1989 and the second time in 1994.

She was a panellist in the television show Ook dat nog, a consumer protection oriented show based on the BBC’s That’s Life!. She also appeared on Buitenlandse Zaken, a show with political satire.

Sylvia Millecam was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1999, and the diagnosis was confirmed in 2000. Although the cancer was diagnosed quite early and therefore curable in a large number of cases, she didn’t like the idea of having chemotherapy and surgery and turned to alternology instead. Under the influence of several alternologists and spiritual healer Jomanda she had a series of therapies, all of which quite predictably failed, and she died in 2001.

This heartbreaking experience should be a warning for anyone who may consider alternative healthcare. There is no such thing as alternative healthcare.

The saddest thing of all, is that Sylvia actually mocked the New Age movement in a song she sang for Ook dat nog! where she sings about a relationship with an elm tree (in Dutch) and that she was at the time clearly aware of the implausibility of alternology. Yet, it did not stop her risking her life on it.
