Norman Borlaug
Norman Ernest Borlaug is an American agronomist and humanitarian, born on 25 March 1914. He is generally considered the father of the Green Revolution, the combination of a mid-20th century change in agricultural methods with high yielding varieties, that is said to have saved the lives of hundreds of millions of people (1).
He appeared in the episode Eat this! of Penn & Teller’s popular programme Bullshit! where his intervention was short but rather interesting, even funny. Tow examples:
“You can’t build a peaceful world on empty stomachs and human misery” (2)
“We’re 6.6 billion people now, we can only feed 4 billion. I don’t see 2 billion volunteers to disappear.” (3)
