Ongiara

Ongiara is the smallest of the ferries connecting mainland Toronto to the islands in the bay. According to the Canadian Transportation Agency1, it can transport 10 cars, 8 trucks or 220 passengers.

During the winter, it is the only ferry in use. The reason for this is that very few people go to the islands in the winter. Most passengers are people who live on Ward’s Island or on Algonquin Island.

Although the Ongiara is not an ice breaker, it is capable of operating in ice.
